The national demonstration against the renewal of Trident nuclear weapons, organised by CND and supported by Stop the War Coalition, will be one of the most important political events this year, in addition to being the biggest demonstration against nuclear weapons since the 1980s. The arguments surrounding Jeremy Corbyn's reshuffle and the attacks on Stop the War from resigning shadow ministers, speak to the continuing importance of foreign policy, war and nuclear weapons issues. It will therefore have a high political significance and hopefully impact.
Apart from making the world a more dangerous place, nuclear weapons are an incredible waste of money. It is estimated that the cost of Trident renewal and maintenance is going to be £183 billion (£183,000,000,000). A tiny proportion of that would have been sufficient to prevent the terrible floods which hit the north of England in recent weeks.
Sign up to the demonstration on Facebook and invite your friends. We also encourage everyone outside of London to get in touch with the CND office and book their coach ticket. We need to make this demonstration into an enormous show of opposition to these pointless and wasteful weapons of mass destruction.
