Our two speakers this evening discuss the impact of the Tory government’s hardening attitude to migrants and refugees against the background of rising xenophobia and nationalism in Europe.

Bilkis Ismael is Labour counsellor for Crompton Ward in Bolton. Bilkis reports on the plight of non-UK nationals with long-standing residency in this country, whose particular circumstances leave them threatened with deportation and entirely without legal support.
John Nicholson is a leading immigration barrister and Chair of Manchester Law Centre Management Committee. John discusses the centre’s work and in particular the continuing fight to get justice for refugees and asylum seekers in an increasingly hostile political climate.
