Paul Salveson Talk followed by a rehearsed reading "Whitman and Wallace"
The Eagle Street College was a group of lower middle-class Boltonians who in the late 1800s comprised the only group of Whitmanites outside the US. During the later years of the poet’s life the group entered into an extensive correspondence with him, the material from which now forms an important archive shared by Bolton Library and the John Rylands library in Manchester. The group were drawn to Whitman’s passionate advocacy of democracy and freedom, in particular the ways in which is work championed personal and sexual freedom.
Paul Salverson introduces the evening with a short talk about his research for his book With Whitman in Bolton.
This will be followed by a rehearsed reading of ‘Whitman and Wallace’, an extract from a work in progress by Stephen Hornby, writer in residence for LGBT History Month. Stephen hopes that the full length work will be available for performance for the Whitman bicentennial in 2019. Followed by Q&A.

Next Goal Wins (Dir: Mike Brett, Steve Jamison, 2014)
Uplifting and celebratory, Next Goal Wins covers more elements than just the classic sporting underdog story, although what an underdog story it is. It is also enlightening on the social and cultural issues of the island.
